Part 35: Mark 9:38-50
Gatekeepers or Disciples? Jesus’ Call to Stop Policing Others and Start Cutting Off Sin
Mark 9:38-50
In Mark 9:38–50, John accidentally exposes what still poisons churches today: insecurity dressed up as “discernment.” The disciples try to shut down a man casting out demons in Jesus’ name—because he isn’t part of their group—and Jesus responds with a liberating command: stop hindering him. From there, Jesus flips our entire definition of greatness: the kingdom isn’t built on platforms and tribes, but on humble service, small acts done in His name, and a fierce protection of “the little ones.” Then He drops a holy warning—deal radically with whatever makes you stumble—because sin isn’t something to manage, it’s something to cut off. This message will challenge your pride, refine your heart, and call you back to the kind of “salt” that makes disciples distinct: holiness, humility, and peace.
